Michael Kors was launched in New York City, in the United States of America in 1981 by sportswear fashion designer Karl Anderson Jr, best known as Michael Kors, and his business partner John Orchulli.

The two designers first produced simple, sporty pieces with luxury, glittering details. Simplicity and originality were the key words for Michael Kors’s first US fashion originality award in 1983, a few years after the brand had been launched. The brand’s success caused it to branch out into other fashion areas like accessories and fragrances.

Kors first store opened in 2000 in downtown New York and from that year onwards the brand expanded into other cities in the United States but also into many other countries such as Japan, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy, England, France, Brazil, among others. Kors is now a global influential presence numbering over 770 stores in more than 85 countries in the world.
