ART INSTALLATION
MEMÓRIAS DO MAR BY CRISTINA RODRIGUES
"Memórias do Mar” is the new work of contemporary art by artist Cristina Rodrigues, curated by the agency State of the Art, which pays tribute to the municipality of Vila do Conde and its maritime activities, consisting of three art installations created with satin ribbons and LED lights.
“Estaleiro”, “Sob o Mar” and “Medusas” reflect not only a poetic vision of the strong relationship between humankind and the sea, but also the respect that the artist Cristina Rodrigues has for the life and integrity of the marine elements.
This set of art installations was created specifically for Vila do Conde Porto Fashion Outlet, with the aim of providing visitors with a distinctive experience and paying homage to the municipality and its maritime activities.

A SOUND EXPERIENCE
The works also have a sound component, created by musician and composer Manuel Faria, to deepen the experience, with sounds from the maritime universe, combined with orchestral soundtracks. There are more than 500 sounds per experience, transmitted through 10 channels and using different frequencies.
In the "Shipyard" installation, with its emphasis on boats, the sounds are more on the surface, highlighting the sound of waves, seagulls, buoys and sailors.
In the "Under the Sea" installation, with an emphasis on fish, the sounds are of the submerged environment but at a shallow depth which, combined with musical tracks, lead visitors to be impacted by the sounds of the movements of the shoals.
Finally, in "Jellyfish", the sounds are deep and calm, transporting the listener to the tranquillity of the seabed, where the slow and seductive movement of these species is felt in the sound of the currents and their own movement.
